Jérôme Prévost La Closerie Les Béguines Extra Brut
Peter Liem's blog on Champagne: Its virtually impossible to be a hip wine bar or wine store in Paris, or indeed, anywhere in France, if you dont have champagne from Jérôme Prévost. Selling a Prévost wine, or ordering one at a wine bar or restaurant, has become almost a badge of honor, a secret sign that affirms your initiation into an exclusive club of those in the know. Unfortunately, with an annual production of only about 13,000 bottles, Prévosts wine is not always easy to obtain. 93+/100p Wine Advocate: The NV Brut Nature Les Beguines is 100% Pinot Meunier made from tiny yields. The wine went into bottle with no filtering or fining and no dosage. This is a magnificent bottle of Champagne, but it will require considerable patience, as today it is tight as a drum. Occasionally hints of hazelnuts, pears and dried apricots come through, and the wines sheer density and richness are impossible to ignore. The wine continues to improve with air, hinting at what looks to be a very bright future.
